Review — The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith

The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith

I struggled with the first half of the book, likely a combo of what felt like slow pacing and my own reading slump. The Library of the Unwritten and I took a break (NOT A BREAKUP!), and I am glad I came back to it!

The premise is smack dab in the middle of my interests. Books? Check! Disgruntled librarian damned for eternity? Check! Angels and demons? Check! Authors angsting over their unfinished projects and being too attached to their darlings? Uh-huh! A found family of misfits? You betcha! The author plays around with in-jokes of writing, and creates a world where unfinished art goes to languish that left my heart aching.

I’d recommend this to people who enjoy angel/demon or Heaven vs. Hell stories like Good Omens and who might be looking for a departure from normal fantasy fare. Hackwith has an amazing imagination, and I will definitely be moving on through the series.
