Dee Rees — BAFTA Screenwriters Lecture

I quite enjoyed this lecture. She discusses the importance of letting characters say things they don’t mean, avoiding saying what they do mean, high-context conversations, and making sure you don’t let your character simply become your mouthpiece. She also spends a little time on making good use of spectacle, which is something I’d not given a lot of consideration to in the past, even though it’s something I’ve used.

As an aside, I would love to find more videos and even podcasts about writing, specifically about dialogue/playwriting/screenwriting. Suggestions would be fantastic if you have them!
